A WORCESTER FLUTED FANCY TEACUP AND SAUCER

circa 1778-82, painted in columns, each with an exotic bird before a tree in the Duvivier style, the interior of the cup and the border of the saucer each with three-quarter trellis panels with double puce swags between, 13.2cm diameter

Provenance: Hugh Langmead, Duke's July 28th 2016 lot 232. The collection of the late Anthony du Boulay FSA (1929-2002).

Literature: This type of design represents the last phase of the Dr. Wall period. The exotic birds first painted at Chelsea over 20 years previously is typically portrayed.

There is a minor chip to the foot rim of the saucer, there is some minor rubbing to the gilding and decoration consistent with age, there is a chip to the rim of  the cup, there is a crack to the base of the handle where it joins the cup.
