LEON RICHET (1847-1907) AND NARCISSE DIAZ DE LA PEÑA (1807-1876) A forest landscape
signed by both artists, dated 1877 lower left, oil on canvas, 87.5cm x 114cm
Note: Richet was an admirer and in some senses a pupil of Diaz, who in turn was a student of Théodore Rousseau. Both were members of the French Barbizan school of painters, of which Corot is one of the best known. They were based in and around the Fontainebleau forest where this painting is probably set.
