A VICTORIAN SILVER CHRISTENING TANKARD

by James Deakin & Sons, Sheffield, 1880, the fern engraved body with central cartouche bearing Hannay crest with motto 'Per Ardua Ad Alta', the handle with swan cresting, 9.5cm high, together with a George III silver Christening tankard possibly by William Cattell, London 1780 with later embossed body and inscribed to William Henry Hannay, 9.5cm high, 6 tr. ozs combined
Note: the Hannay Clan is an historically important Scottish family, whose ancestral home since 1532 has been Kirkdale, Galloway.

The Victorian tankard has a dented and misshapen rim and there is slight cracking inside the bowl at handle top joint.

The Hannay Crest is clear.

There is slight wear to the body and the footrim is dented.

The other tankard is split to rim, badly dented to footrim and dented elsewhere to body.

The embossing is of good quality.

The inscription reads 'William Henry Hannay from William Rt. Wynne 16th January 1882'.
