Note: This picture is almost certainly that called "Noon" featuring in John N. Rhodes, A Yorkshire Painter, 1809-1842, by William H. Thorp, 1904, on page 61. It is described as a warm summer day with two hearty looking country men depicted seated under a spreading beech tree. One with a discarded dinner basket and a barrel of "home brewed" holding a scrap of meat for his dog. The other seated with his back turned. It is noted that the picture was formally in the collection of Mr. S. Ingham. It has been in the present owners family for over one hundred years. It is described as an admirably rendered piece of the painter's best period.
