A DUTCH WALNUT AND MARQUETRY BUREAU

19th century, decorated with garlands of flowers, foliage, and exotic birds throughout, the structure with three doors at the top with internal shelving, a pull-down cylinder fronted bureau with sliding writing slope and a series of internal drawers and pigeonholes, and four drawers beneath, terminating on tapered block feet, 170cm high x 103cm wide x 50cm deep

Provenance: The Estate of Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904), thence by descent.

Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

There are a number of small splits, losses and repairs to the veneer throughout. The handles and escutcheons appear to have been replaced. There is evidence of old worm. The baize has been replaced. There are splits to the side panels. Restorations and replacements to the feet.
