William Otway McCannell was a British painter, illustrator, writer and Principal of Farnham School of Art, where Scale studied. McCannell's daughter Ursula (1923-2015) was the youngest member to be elected to the Women's International Art Club at aged 14, then three years later became the youngest artist to exhibit at the Royal Academy (1940).
