A JAPANESE CLOISONNE CENSER

Meiji Period, the black ground decorated with flowers and insects, on tripod feet, 12cm high

Provenance: Thomas Child (1841 – 1898) was a pioneering photographer who produced a large body of photographs during his time in Beijing during the 1870’s. He was close to the Emperor and the court. The family believe a number of objects were gifts from the Imperial family.

The internal rim of the lid is dented. One of the legs is dented. Small chip/dent to the rim. Wear, slight tarnishing and scratching to the gilt metal. Enamel work appears largely good, a small few very small losses, some pitting.
