The brooch is in overall good condition for its age with no signs of damage, heavy wear or repair. The opal is in good condition with no signs of chips or abrasions. The opal has a good play of colour exhibiting a full spectrum of colours in small platelets across a cabochon opal with a translucent white base colour. The opal is held securely in its setting and all claws are present. The gold has light scratches throughout, commensurate with age and use. The pin clasp functions well and safety chain present and in good condition.
