AN ENGLISH CUP-HILT RAPIER

mid-17th century, the slender tapering blade with central fuller either side, stamped with 'S' (Solingen), the pommel chiselled in relief with moustachioed and bearded face, probably of Charles I, the shallow cup-guard pierced and chiselled with mirrored pattern of the King again flanked by angels, with spirally twist grip bound by wire, 102.5cm blade

This lot is in good country house condition.

There is pitting to the blade and the tip has some minor damage.Please see additional images.

There is some minor worming to the grip where the wood is exposed and the wire has worn away.

There is a small area on the hilt where one little scroll has come slightly adrift. This does not affect the aesthetics of the sword.
