This chest on stand originally belonged to the grandfather of the vendor, Dr. Eddie Andreae, a major player in the merchant bank Kleinwort Benson. Dr. Andreae was a keen sailor and he built two J-Class yachts, Candida, and Endeavour 1. He and Tommy Sopwith helped initiate the America's Cup.

There are multiple areas where the veneer has been repaired/replaced. There are some further areas of veneer lifting and loss. Some small areas of repair to the moulding. Handles, locks and escutcheons replaced. Some dryness to the veneer. The stand is likely later adapted. Some damages and repairs evident to the stand, including chips and losses to the stretchers and multiple veneer cracks. The back stretcher a later replacement. Evidence of old worm.
