MANNER OF CANOVA (1757-1822) A WHITE MARBLE GROUP OF A CHERUB AND HOUND

engraved 'Canova' to the front of the base and indistinctly signed 'Ballon' to the ground, the cherub figured sleeping with a bow and quiver resting underneath the hound's paw, 32cm high x 59cm wide x 46cm deep

Note: A comparable group by the Italian artist Odoardo Fantacchiotti (1811-1877) titled “Amore et Fedelta” (“Love and Faithfulness”) features a similarly figured cherub reclining against a dog, this group was sold by Wannenes Art Auctions in Genoa for €110,000 in 2016.

Overall the group is in largely good and attractive condition. There are some small chips and losses, particularly where the base and top meet around the edges. Some built up of dirt/discolouration.
