Estimate: £3,000 - £5,000
Bidding ended. Lot is unsold.

Provenance: The Les Watts Collection.

Note: Edward John Dent began producing clocks in the early 19th century and created the firm of his own name shortly afterwards. Amongst many notable achievements was the contract for the new clock at the Palace of Westminster, now known as 'Big Ben'.

This lot has extensive scratching to the top and plinth in particular.

The dial is stained and dirty. There is some signs of overpainting on the dial and some denting.

There are scratches to the glass panes. There is a chip to the lower left handside in the corner.

The mechanism appears to be complete and strikes clearly on the gong. The winding barrel turns but we have not run the mechanism as the escapement spring appears to be broken
