Note: This Meissen model is likely based on prints published to advertise the arrival of "Clara", an Indian rhinoceros brought to Europe on a Dutch East India Company Vessel. The rhinoceros was acquired in 1741 and was exhibited in many European cities, including Dresden in 1747. There are fundamental similarities in this model to the rhinoceros drawn by Moritz Bodenehr (1665-1749) dated 1747.
