both first editions, volumes I and II, both printed by Bowyer and Nichols, London, 1774, full brown leather bindings, one set with brown leather half titles, the other black, the former inscribed in ink Frederick and Jane Fisher, the latter with bookplate for Sir Robert Sheffield (4)

Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

The Frederick and Jane Fisher set are in poor condition. Volume I has the front board detached, the half titles damaged, the spine split, whilst Volume II has the front flyleaf missing, the front board is loose, the rear board is chipped and damage, the spine is cracked. Both have some foxing and staining to page and both appear complete.


The Sir Robert Sheffield set are in better condition. Both are cracked to hinges, bumped to corners and generally worn to bindings. There is some staining to page and the volumes both appear complete.
