Note: Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913) was a true polymath, leaving an indelible mark on multiple disciplines. Beyond his renowned status as a naturalist, his explorations took him to remote corners of the globe, while his keen observations led him to significant contributions in geography and anthropology. His intellect extended beyond the natural world, as he also engaged in political commentary, demonstrating a deep concern for social issues. Yet, it is his groundbreaking insight into evolution by natural selection, conceived independently of Charles Darwin, that cemented his legacy as one of the most important scientific thinkers of the 19th century.
