Note: Daniel Marot (1661-1752) was a French-born Dutch architect, furniture designer and engraver. He was trained by his father Jean Marot, who was also an architect and engraver. Daniel, a Protestant, left France in 1685, the year the Edict of Nantes was revoked. He emigrated to Holland and worked in the service of the Prince of Orange, who he then followed to England as William III. Daniel was at the forefront of the late Baroque Louis XIV style and his opulent designs influenced much of what we now refer to as 'William and Mary' style.
