Note: Maochun is the name of a private Jingdezhen enameller of excellent quality. There are only a few known bottles bearing his signature, primarily in famille rose enamels such as this. He signed his name at a time when no other enamellers did. Maochun's subject matter was limited and often repeated. See Bonhams, Snuff Bottles from the Mary and George Bloch Collection Part V, 27th May 2012, Lot 151, covering the same subject however signed in seal. Other examples are in prestigious international collections like the Franz Collection and the Marakovic Collection.
Provenance: A private Dorset collection.
