A CHINESE BLACK LACQUER AND GILTWOOD ALTAR CABINET

19th/20th century, the cupboard doors decorated with carved and pierced panels and opening to a red painted and gilt interior, on a stepped plinth base, 45cm high x 35cm wide x 16cm deep

Provenance: Accompanied by a Honk Kong Art Craft Merchants Association Limited Certificate of Authenticity, dated 7th September 1978, including a photograph of the cabinet and inscribed 'This temple wooden box is over hundred years old from China'.

The doors do not appear to fit well and come loose. There are a number of small damages throughout, including chips, splits, cracking and losses to the lacquer, losses to giltwood carving, the frieze of the base is split, the back panel is split and there is loss to the red paint and gilt.
