A CHINESE CARVED GOURD CRICKET CAGE

Late Qing/Republic period, the body finely incised with dragons flying amongst blossoming flowers, with a pierced foliate cover and hongmu mount, 11.5cm high overall, in a fitted case

Provenance: An old paper in the case is from 'R. Hauser and Partners', Hong Kong, and inscribed 'Carved Cricket Gourd Box'.

The gourd appears to be in largely good condition. There is a pair of small pits to the bottom together with a larger indentation. The cork of the lid has some expected deterioration. There is a small split to the rim of the lid. Otherwise in fair condition.
