in silver on 9ct gold, set with graduating sapphire cabochons, set to the inside with a row of old cut diamonds and punctuated by further old cut diamonds to the outside, secured with a hinged pin clasp and safety chain, engraved '1864', no assay marks, c.2.9cm, (c.8.9g)

The brooch is in very good condition with no signs of damage, heavy wear or repair. The sapphires are all in good condition with no signs of chips or abrasions. They all match well in colour, exhibiting a deep royal blue. Some natural inclusions visible in most stones under x10 loupe. Good level of clarity to all with a silky appearance. All secure in their settings. The diamonds are all present and in good condition with no signs of chips or abrasions. The gold has light scratches, commensurate with age. The pin is in good condition and functions well.
