Portrait of the gentleman: the painting is in good general condition, and has been relined and restored. The picture surface is stable, with mild craquelure throughout. The painting bears a thin varnish layer. There is a blemish below the sitter's left eyebrow and some rubbing around the edges of the canvas. Apart from this, the painting presents well and is ready to hang.

Portrait of the lady: the painting is in good general condition, and has been relined and restored, with a clearly visible varnish layer. There are some marks and abrasions towards the edges of the painting, as well as some undulation around the edges of the canvas that possibly date to when it was last stretchered. There is also a repaired hole by the sitter's face.
