A LOUIS XVI WHITE MARBLE, PATINATED AND GILT BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK BY JEAN-ANTOINE LEPINE OF PARIS

circa 1790, the two train movement striking on a bell, signed to the back plate and engraved with 'no 4177', the enamel dial inscribed 'Lépine, Hger Du Roi, Places Des Victoires No 12', with an unusual combination of Arabic and Roman numerals, a date ring to the inside and pierced and engraved trellis hands,

the drum case surmounted by an eagle crest and flanked by two figures after Louis-Simon Boizot's (1743-1809) “L’Étude”, the male 'Philosopher' and the female 'Learning', on a plinth base inset with relief carved gilt plaques and foliate frieze, with toupie feet, 49cm high x 59cm wide x 14cm deep

The case is in largely good condition. The back door is missing. There is some wear to the gilt metal and tarnishing, notably to the eagles beak. The bronzes are both ok. There are small enamel chips to the face and some further wear. There are a number of small chips and marks to the base, as well as some natural striations. In handsome overall appearance. 

The movement would benefit from a service as it has not been run recently. The pendulum and key are present. 

We do not guarantee clocks to be in working order.
