The painting bears some clear issues. It has been relined, but not for many decades. The picture surface is not completely stable and it bears prominent craquelure throughout. There is an inconsistent varnish layer, with areas of roughness to the texture of the picture surface. There are signs of potential restoration, especially around the subject's head.
