The painting bears some clear damage, centred around the face of the subject and clearly visible in photography. The picture surface is unstable in these sections, and the paint is peeling away. There is also an area of potentially bituminous craquelure towards the lower left of the canvas, near the sitter's shoulder. The remainder of the canvas looks to be in acceptable condition, but the issues around the sitter's face would require serious attention. Please see additional images available on request.
