The frame appears to be plaster rather than carved wood (with wooden support beneath). The gilt frame bears many areas of loss, as photographed. The painting itself bears a glossy varnish layer and appears to have been relined, with a clear area of loss to the far right and other abrasions and protrusions to the picture surface, as well as some wear around the edges. Please see additional images available on request.
The artwork has been catalogued 'in the manner of' Domenichino, meaning that we believe it to have been painted later than the 1600s, as per established picture cataloguing conventions. We would estimate the frame to be eighteenth century.
