Ralph Montacute Brind was born on 2 December 1881 and was a Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was
commissioned into the Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant on 28 July 1900. He
joined the 37th Dogras on 9 October 1901, promoted to Captain on 28th July 1909
and to Major on 1 September 1915. The regiment was stationed at Jhelum and was
sent to Mesopotamia landing at Basra on 8 December 1915. Brind was killed in action on 2 February 1916 and he is buried in the Arara War Cemetery, Iraq.
