A JAPANESE CARVED LACQUER THREE TIER BOX

19th century, Meiji, the body of two interlocking offset square boxes, both with textured red ground, the first box with geometric latticework with scrolling flowers and stylised lotuses, the second with densely carved chrysanthemums with bamboo rounded carved edges, 16.5cm high x 18cm wide x 18cm deep

This box is in good overall condition with faded red lacquer.

The top tier has a tiny nick to an outer corner and scratches and rubs to the inner edge. 

The second tier has similar small nicks to the interior edge and a minute crack to one corner.

The third tier has an small area of the inner lip which has come away (complete but detached). There is a crack to one side.

Non of the above affects the stability nor aesthetics. The box is stable, has not warped and functions as intended.
