James Lynch is a British painter renowned for his evocative depictions of the English landscape and rural life.

Working predominantly in egg tempera - a medium rooted in Renaissance tradition - Lynch has developeda distinctive style marked by luminous clarity, delicate tonal shifts, and a quiet sense of poetry. Horses, birds in flight, expansive skies, and pastoral scenes frequently occupy his canvases, reflecting both his close observation of nature and his deep connection to the countryside.

Born in Somerset in 1956, Lynch studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford, before establishing his career as a professional artist. His works have been exhibited widely across the United Kingdom, including at the Royal West of England Academy, the New English Art Club, and prominent commercial galleries. Collectors are drawn to his rare mastery of egg tempera, which lends his paintings an enduring radiance and subtle precision.

Lynch’s art is represented in numerous private and public collections, and he is regarded as one of the leading contemporary exponents of tempera painting in Britain today.
