Lot 123

ENGLISH SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY Portrait miniature of a gentleman

bust-length, wearing a grey coat with medals, watercolour on ivory, 9cm x 7cm, in a brass frame and fitted folding arched case

Ivory Submission Reference: 4BTCYKXZ

Note: the sitter's distinctive facial hair was fashionable among Victorian men in the 1850s and 1860s. Although the sitter is unknown, these factors (considered along with his medals and military greatcoat) indicate that he may have served in the Crimean War and that the miniature may date from this period.

Estimate: £80 - £150
