The fine decoration of this bowl is done in homage to the famed 'Palace' bowls of the Chenghua period. A great deal of reverence was shown to the skill of the makers of this early period and this type of veneration was typical for Qing potters. The emperor Kangxi also used this as a tool to help soothe the transition into the new dynasty, through respect for the accomplishments of his predecessors.
