The painting is generally in acceptable condition, but bears a few issues. UV examination reveals extensive overpainting around the subject's face. The canvas has been restored and relined, with a few very small areas of loss. Picture surface is stable, with a glossy varnish layer. Canvas tension is good. There are even marks towards the edges of the picture surface where the stretcher support shows through. There is craquelure throughout. There are numerous areas of loss and abrasion to the frame.
