PIERRE ADOLPHE VALETTE (1876-1942) "PORTRAIT OF GABRIELA DE BOLIVAR", the subject seated at a table, oil on canvas board, 51cm x 68cm Valette is chiefly remembered today as L.S. Lowry's tutor, Lowry once commented "I cannot over-estimate the effect on me of the coming into this drab city of Adolphe Valette, full of French impressionists, aware of everything that was going on in Paris.". Gabriela de Bolivar was another of Valette's students. A Venezualan, Gabriela became Valette's muse and wife, marrying in 1905.
