IMPRESSIVE GEORGE III SILVER GILT TWO-HANDLED TRAY by Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith, London 1806. of oval form, the handles cast in the form of lions heads and terminating in rams, heads, the raised cast border pierced in the form of vine leaves and grapes, the centre chased with scrolls interspersed with classical urns, centred with an engraved coat of arms above the motto "Magistratus Indicat Virum", the whole raised on extended mask capped hoof feet with garlands underneath, the underside rim also engraved with retailers mark of Rundell Bridge et Rundell Aurifice Regis et Principis Walliae Londini Fecerunt, 78cm long (from handle to handle) x 54cm wide (c.222oz) The arms are those of Lowther Impaling Fane below a baron's coronet Provenance: Sothebys, London, Important Furniture, Silver, Ceramics and Clocks, 6th December 2011, Lot 81
