J.R.R. TOLKIEN: "WOODRIDINGS" A carved Purbeck stone house sign, 56cm wideJ.R.R. Tolkien retired to "Woodridings", a bungalow in Branksome, Poole in 1968 and lived there until his death in 1972. Tolkien moved to Poole to escape his ever increasing fame in Oxford and apparently enjoyed a happy retirement in this property. Following his death, the property was later demolished and the house sign rescued from demolition.
