ROSSETTI, CHRISTINA GEORGINA (1830-1894)ROSSETTI, MARIA FRANCES (1827-1876)Letter addressed from 56 Euston Square and dated 16th 1872, annotated verso and dated 1872, 17 Jan and signed 'Miss Rossetti'. 'Miss Christina G. Rossetti presents her compliments to Messrs Williams and Norgate and begs them to accept her thanks for Mr Sydney Colvin's gratifying review which they have obligingly sent her' Autograph letter signed M. F. Rossetti and addressed from 56 Euston Square and dated 14th Feb, 1871. To Mr Williams; an interesting letter regarding a work on Dante; 'I have been engaged during the last twelvemonth in the composition of a work on Dante, I have great pleasure in offering it to you for publication….as in the case of it not suiting you I should offer it to someone else. Pray believe me'.Sisters to Dante and William, the Rossetti sisters were - of course - both renowned for their poetry and writing. Christina Rossetti was - in 1872 - chronically ill with Grave's disease. Sydney Colvin, referred to in the letter, was a famous literary and art critic c. Her sister, Maria, a nun, wrote several works on Durante Degli Alighieri and this letter must refer to 'A Shadow of Dante' which was in fact published by Rivington. (2)
