DARWIN, CHARLES ROBERT.FRS FRGS FLS FZS (1809-1882)An autograph letter signed 'Ch. Darwin' dated Aug 30th/Sept 2nd and sent on personal 'Down, Beckenham, Kent' headed notepaper concerning Williams & Norgate publishers procuring 'two volumes of Citrifolia' (Referring to Morinda Citrifolia or the Indian mulberry or cheese fruit tree) with a request to 'Then send on to Dr. Anton Dohrn for the Zoological Station at Naples'. Signed verso also with date 'Ch. Darwin'.Felix Anton Dohrn FRS FRSE, 1840-1909, was the founder and director of the first zoological research station in the world, Stazioni Zoologica in Naples. He was an ardent Darwinist and it is also interesting to note that this letter was written just before the official opening of the station to scientists in 1873. The public were allowed access in 1874. Darwin's hand has an honesty of purpose complete with corrections.
