The style and variation in the Ibo area of Imo State are extensive to say the least . The description of the piece was given to me by my wife Amara`s aunt who lives in the Ideato village near Owerri in Imo State. This was made for her grandmother who was an "Adaezi" (Chief's daughter) . The family are very aware of traditional religious practices and her description appeared valid; and given the age and condition of the piece I have no reason to doubt its provenance." Cylindrical and disc form, both sides punched with geometric and concentric decoration. Hammered into shape and fitted onto the girl by a specialist intinerant smith. These Anklets were considered prestigeous on account of the costly material from which they were made and because the woman was unable to undertake normal domestic duties.
