GREAT WAR D.S.O. GROUP TO LIEUTENANT-COLONEL J.A.P. ROBINSON ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. John Armstrong Purefoy Robinson was born in 1874. Aged 19, Robinson was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery. Promoted to Captain on 15th December 1901, Robinson served during the Second Boer War, awarded the Queens South Africa Medal (Natal, Transvaal, Orange Free State) and the Kings South Africa Medal (1901;1902). In the years preceding The Great War, Robinson was Commandant and Adjutant of the Bermuda Military Artillery from May 1905 until May 1910. To France 20th September 1914 and promoted to Major 30th October 1914. Service on the Italian Front followed from April 1917 until October 1917, on 30th July 1917 he was placed in command of the 101 HA Group as acting Lieutenant Colonel. Robison spent the latter stages of the war in Mesopotamia, from early November 1917 until October 1918. D.S.O was announced in the London Gazette on 1st January 1918. Al Valore Militare, London Gazette 25th March 1918 and The Order of St. Maurice and Lazarus, gazetted on the same date. MID was announced 27th November 1917. Provenance - Spinks.
