IGS WAZIRISTAN 1894/5 to 2329 Pte J Aldridge 2nd Bn Border Regt / Spent most of the time in prison John Aldridge was born in Spitalfields, London, Middlesex in 1870. A labourer by trade he joined up aged 18 in 1888 at Carlisle. He was already serving with the 5th Royal Fusiliers, but this was declared. Somehow his medal wasn't forfeited, in fact, after his discharge he was recalled and served in the Boer War, earning the Queens South Africa Medal! Regularly in prison for drunkenness, sleeping at his post, drunk at his post, theft. Service papers make interesting reading. The medal is correctly engraved = 2329 Pte J Aldridge 2nd Bn Border Regt Condition = GVF (light edge bruise, naming not affected, suspender is a little loose)
