GREAT WAR TRIO AND LSGC to 200801 W T Clegg AB RN - Mentioned in Despatches for services in Rescue Tugs William Thomas Clegg was born in Nottingham in 1881. In civilian life, he worked as a Milkman. He joined the Royal Navy on 2nd May 1899, signing on for 12 years. During the Great War he first served on HMS Illustrious between 13th July 1914 and 26th November 1915, then HMS Vengeance between December 1915 and March 1917. Clegg was based at HMS Collen from August 1917 until May 1919.
