MASONIC GREAT WAR TRIBUTE MEDAL presented to Bro F J Fougies. Direct from the family. The surname on the medal should be Fowgies. Frederick John Fowgies was born on 10th December 1897. He joined the Royal Air force on 5th March 1918 as a Cadet and undertook flight training. He gained his wings and was posted to 37 Squadron, which was tasked with home defence, flying Sopwith Camels. On the 1st November 1918, he crashed and was admitted to hospital. He never resumed flying duties and was discharged and pensioned 22nd April 1919. During the Second World War, he served in the Home Guard as a Captain. Scratches to the surname, in case of issue. Condition VF+
