					ASCRIBED TO SIR PETER LELY (1618-1680) Half-length portrait of Sir William Morice wearing plate armour and lace jabot, tied with a blue silk ribbon, oil on canvas, 74cm x 60cm in the impressive contemporary giltwood auricular frame Sir William Morice (c.1628-1690) of Werrington, Cornwall (then Devon) was an English Member of Parliament. His father, also Sir William Morice (1602-1676) was an English statesman and theologian who assisted in the Restoration of King Charles II. A portrait of the elder Morice by Jacob Huysmans is in the collection of the National Trust at Antony, Torpoint, Cornwall, in addition to a portrait of the younger Morice's eldest daughter Mary (later the wife of Sir John Carew of Antony) by John Riley Provenance: Sold at Christie's, 22nd March 1968 as Lely Private Collection, Berkshire
