IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF ANGLO-FRENCH ENCAUSTIC TERRACOTTA FLOOR TILES, 14TH / 15TH CENTURY the part glazed tiles decorated with a stags head and star motif, 12.5cm diam (160) Provenance: Private Collection, Dorset A similar tile is illustrated by Maureen Miller in 'Pots and Tiles of the Middle Ages', the catalogue of Sam Fogg's recent selling exhibition in London, Comparable tiles may be seen in the country retreat of the Abbots of Citeaux, at the Chateau of Gillyles-Citeaux, in the room known as "des Cornes", where each decorated example alternates with a plain black tile.
