MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES GREAT WAR PAIR TO CAPTAIN R B SMITH Correctly impressed Capt R B Smith MID - 25th May 1917. Condition NEF Robert Beveridge Smith was born in 1886. He lived in Edinburgh and worked as a writer for a solicitor. He enlisted on 13th November 1914 joining the 10th Seaforth Highlanders as a Pte. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 1st December 1914. Smith was wounded on 12th October 1916, suffering a gunshot wound to the left leg. After which he was only fit for home service. His final post of the war was to a prisoner of war camp at Kinross. He was discharged on 20th March 1919.
