SCARCE INDIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL & 1914 STAR TRIO GROUP TO CAPTAIN W GIBSON - 2nd Durham Light Infantry Indian General Service Medal bars Punjab 1897 -98 and Tirah 1897-98 correctly engraved to Lieutenant W Gibson 2nd Bn Durham Lt Infy. 1914 Star Trio correctly impressed to Capt W Gibson Durh LI, Condition GVF+ William Gibson was born on 1st September 1874. He was educated at Wellington School. Gibson served as a Second Lieutenant with the 3rd Militia battalion of The Prince of Wales Leinster Regt. He was commissioned into the 2nd battalion of the Durham Light Infantry on 12th August 1896. During the campaign on the Northwest Frontier, Gibson was attached to the 2nd battalion of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry earning the Indian General Service Medal. He had retired on 12th August 1911, however in the early stages of the Great War; he served with the 2nd battalion DLI before transferring to a Staff Officer position in December 1914, serving as a Brigade- Major in the reserves from 4th June 1916. Gibson survived the war and passed away in County Tipperary in 1957.
