DURHAM PALS 1914/15 TRIO TO 18-73 PTE J GILLANDER DLI. who was wounded 1st Day of the Somme Correctly impressed. SJT on Pair. Condition GVF. John Gillander was born in Inverness. He enlisted at Darlington on the September 1914. An original member of the 18th battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, the 'Durham Pals'. He served in Egypt and then France, where on the 1st day of the Somme he was wounded. Gillander was wounded for the second time on 12th April 1918 when he sustained a GSW to the buttocks. Gillander survived the war and was transferred to the Army Reserve on 22nd February 1919.
