1914/15 TRIO TO 7-1371 PTE J SCARLETT DURH L I, Correctly impressed, Condition NEF. James Scarlett was born in Bandon near Sunderland in 1894. An Engine Fitter by trade he joined the Territorial Army on 26th April 1911 and became a member of the 7th Durham Light Infantry. On the 10th November 1914, he signed up to serve overseas. Scarlett landed in France on 19th April 1915 and was quickly in action. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left knee on 25th May 1915 at Bailleul. It was a 'Blighty' wounded, and he didn't return to his unit until September. He suffered from Septic Heals and then Scabies in March 1916. Scarlett was discharged in May 1916 as his period of enlistment was up.
