INDIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL TO SGT G W CASSELLS 1ST EAST SURREY REGT late DLI who was killed in action at Monte Cassino. IGS NWF 1930/31 Correctly impressed 4444499 Pte G W Cassells Durh L I Condition GVF+ George Wilfred Cassells was born in Cork, Ireland on 1st May 1908. He served on the Northwest Frontier with the 2nd Bn Durham Light Infantry in 1930 and 1931 and was awarded the IGS. He was transferred to the East Surrey Regiment on 2nd June 1938. George was sadly killed in action at the Battle of Monte Cassino on 19th March 1944. He was laid to rest in Cassino War Cemetery. At the time he was Sergeant with the 1st Bn East Surrey Regt.
