Great War Pair correctly impressed QM & Lieut J M Law LSGC 4544 C Sjt J Law Durham L I Condition VF to GVF ( Contacting of QSA & KSA) James Melville Law was born on 6th July 1874. The following is taken from ' Officers of The Durham Light Infantry 1758 to 1968' by Malcolm McGregor. Quartermaster and Hon Lieutenant DLI 24th June 1918; Lieutenant (QM) 24 June 1918 (8 August 1918); Retired 9 February 1923. Reserve of Officers, ceased to belong to Reserve (age limit) 6 July 1929. Commissioned from Sergeant- Major 3rd Bn DLI (appointed 15 August 1914), served in ranks 22 years40o days, WO 166 days, WO Class 1, three years 147 days, Served South African War 1899-1902, Relief of Ladysmith including operations of Tugela Heights, Operations in Natal, including action at Laings Nek. Operations in the Transvaal, Queens Medal with four clasps, Kings Medal with two clasps. Served European War 1914-21, France and Belgium with 2nd Bn 18 July 1918 to 11 November 1918, Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, European Turkey and the Islands of the Aegean Sea 1918, British War Medal, Victory Medal. Also awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (AO April 1913) Died 1946.
