A BOER WAR PAIR TO SJT STANLEY DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY QSA correctly impressed 2949 Cpl J Stanley Durham Lt Infy Bars, Tugela Heights; Relief of Ladysmith; Transvaal, Laing's Nek. KSA correctly impressed 2949 SJT J Stanley Durham L I Bars. South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902. Condition VF Joseph Stanley was born in Stockton on Tees in 1867. He attested aged 20 in 1887, giving his occupation as Labourer. Stanley saw service in the Boer war and was awarded the QSA and KSA. He was for many years employed in the Officers Mess. Stanley was discharged in 1908 after serving twenty-one years. He reenlisted into the Durham Light Infantry on 10th May 1915 and spent the Great War on home service, being discharged again in February 1920.
